W/C 12th December

This week i filmed the studio parts of the music video, which were in the green screen studio.

The reason it is filmed in agreen screen studio is the green makes it easier for editing in AfterEffects.

Once i had filmed, i then needed to get the footage off the tape, which meant recording it onto the computers which is time consuming because you have to watch all the fottage back for it to record, and then it had to 'render' before you can save the footage.
When thats done, you can then drop the file into premiere, and begin to edit, like with the fottagei had film on location, i had to cut out all the bits that were of no use to me and then drop the good shots into the correct places on to the time line with releveance to the song.
This task was made even more difficult because there was faults with premiere, which meant that for unforeseen reason the programme would suddenly close with no warning, so whateveri had done unsaved would be lost and i wuld have to do it again, and the time given to complete the task was limited as there was times when the programme would shut every 2 minutes.
However with perciverance, i managed to get the task done, and ableto finish the first draft of the music video.

Magazine Advert (First Draft)

Music Video (Draft1)

This is the first version of my music video i have created. It is simply the footage running in continuous flow. I am going to get audeince feedback from the target audeince in order to find out what more they would like to see in the video, and then act on this to improve it, and bring it to the standard they would like.

Friday 9 December 2011

W/C 5th December

This week i have been able to start editing the footage i have film.

Firstly i needed to look throught the footage and delete part that were of no use to me, as they were bad quality or the fottage i accidently filmed as i left the camera recoding for example. This was time consuming because i meant i had to watch all my footage all the way through to find out what was good and what i didnt need, and then ensuring i deleted the correct parts.

Once i did this, i could then begin to put the footage into the right order that i needed, on the timeline on Preimere. In order to do this, i had to play the music and move the clip around on the timeline to the relevant place in the song.

W/C 28th November

Over the weekend i was able to film, and this week that i have been back in school, i have uploaded all the footage on to the computer and began to edit it using Premiere.

I first had to copy the files from the camera to the computer and save the files ina  suitable place. then i had to imporat all the clips into premiere, so could work with them. and then finally drag them onto the timeline. All together, this took one whole lesson, and due to the strikeon the 30th, this also meant we lost a lesson.

W/C 21st Novemeber

The main focus for this week has been putting together my target audeince profile.

To do this is have analysed the polls i previous commenced, as part of my research and then i made graphs using the results and thought about what the results meant for me. This enabled me to have a picture in mind of who exactly i am aiming the video i am creating at. This will also help, especially when it comes to creating the digipak and the advert, as they need to appeal to the target audeince if they have any chance of paying any attention to them, and taking in the information.

Also this week, i was able to finally over come the previous problems i had with uploading my Animatic. I found that exporting it as a flash file instead of a windows media file was the best option, and after doing this and uploading it on to my blog it was playing fine, although the quality of sound wasnt as high as before.

Target Audience Profile

The Above is a presentation showing the results from the polls i posted on my blog as graphs with a short explantation and break down of what it means for me and my target audeince. It tells me what i need to be making sure i am doing in my music video, in order to make it pleasing for my target audeince.

W/C 14th November

This week the focus has been on completing all the key production documents, such as the Call Sheets, Permission slips, Risk assesment and location release. It was imporant i completed this documents this week because my first shoot was on Wednesday, therefore i needed to have the call sheet for that shoot and also the risk assement and permission slips complete before this.
After this, i then made sure i completed the other documents (Location Call sheet & Location release) so they were ready for my second shoot which is set to take place on Sunday.

As i am filiming outside of school hours, also on the Thursday i had to collect the equipment i needed from the school and make arrangments with the people who have booked to film on staurday to collect the equpiment from them so i had it for my shoot on Sunday.

Location Release Form

This document has been signed by the owners of the property i am filiming my music video at. It gives me permission to film the premises, and to state that they know and agree to the conditions. This is because it has been signed my them.

Shot List

Shot List

this isuseful document to have completed for when filiming, as it outlines all the planned shots, and therefore avoids taking pointless shots in on the day. In particular, it will be useful to me because time is short for me, as during the winter months there is less daylight, therefore i need to make the most of the day light we do have and make sure the shots that i get are the shots that i want and need, and with this document i will be able to tick off when i have taken the shot.

Model Release Form

Similar to the actor release form, this document gives me permission to take picture of my actress to use for the dgipak and also the magazine advertisment. As it has been signed, i can take photos of my model and use & edit them in whatver what i like, as she has agreed to this.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment

This document outlines all the possible risks that cold occur while filiming, and the precautions that shoul be taken t avoid the risk from happening, while also suggesting what to do if the risk does unfortunatly occur while filiming. This is an imporant document to have present when filiming because instead of wasting time thinking about what to do in the event of an accident, me as director or other crew memebers can look at the risk assessment and see what it suggests to do in the situation.

Call Sheet (Location)

Call Sheet Location)

This is the call sheet for the filming which will take place on location, out of school. This document is even more imporant because it states all the equipment which will need to be collected from school before hand and it also tells the crew memebers where the filiming location is and what time they will need to be there for. Also, as there will not be an oppertunity for them tp change, it states the costume they will be required to wear.

Actor Release Forms

The above documents give me permission to film the actors/acress i have recuited to be in my video, and give me permission to edit their image to suit for my needs. As they have been signed, they argee to these conditions. Therefore, if they see the work after i have produced it, they cannot dispute with what i have done, as they have signed the document to say they agree to me using them and editing.

Call Sheet (Green Screen)

Call Sheet (Green Screen)

Above is the call sheet for the scenes which will be shot in the school studio, 'Green Screen' and then edited at a later stage on the computers. This document states when and where the filiming will take place, who will need to be present  what equipment i will need and any other relevant details. This is a useful document for both me the director and also other crew memebrs so they know when and where they are required and what for.

Props & Costume

As music video is filmed at a home location, the actor and actress will not be required to wear 'costume'. I have asked for them to wear casual clothes:
- Actress: Jeans & Light colour top
- Actor: Chino's with dark colour top

There are also a limited list of props required:
- Photo Album
- Baseball style hat
- Black bag full of clothes

About Polarising Lens

I have done a bit of research into how to avoid the glare off the glass, which was pointed out to be in the feedback, and i discovered this lens which you can put on the camera to avoid the glare. I have also done some research about this lens, which is what this presenation is about.

W/C 7th November

The Main task i have tackled this week is the animatic. This has taken me longer than first anticipated, as i have had a few problems with it.
I was able to create the document succesfully and also exprt it off Adobe Premiure, which is the programme i used to create it. However, when i then uploaded it on to Blogger, the file wouldnt play the way i wanted it to play. The images werent playing in time with the music, the way that i wanted it to, and the way that i had exported it.
I tried several different ways to try to rectify the problem, such as re uploading the video, hosting it on YouTube first and also exporting the file another time.

Feedback

Audience Feedback Form tic

I have recieved fedback from both a male and a female this time round, as i realised i was only gaining feedback from females, and males are infact a part of my target audeince profile, and therefore it is imporant i gain their opinion on the work i am producing.

Animatic

This video is a sequence of moving images to illistrate my storyboard, which could also be descibed as an animated storyboard.

Thursday 3 November 2011

W/C 31st October

This week we were back at school and have began to think about when we are going to film, such as booking a space for the green screen studio. Also, we looked at the schedule for when things should be done, and this made me realise that because the only day that my actor can do is sunday due to other commitments, i effectively have 4 days to get all the filming done, to give enough time for editing.

Also, this week i was able to finish my storyboard for the video. The storyboard will help on the day of filming, as it gives a rought idea of what needs to be filmed.

Storyboard

The Storyboard

The Storyboard #2

The two images above is the storyboard for the music video, showing roughly what will be filmed, the camera angle and then lastly the lyrics to the song for that part of the song. This will be useful for filiming, as it gives a rough outline of what needs to be filmed and when.

Feedback

Audience Feedback Form (Digipak Draft)

This is the feedback i recieved on the draft i have produced of what i have in mind for my digipak. Both of the people i asked had similar concerns, therefore, i need to pay careful attention to this when it comes to the photoshoot, and therefore i will remind myself of this document nearer to the time.

Saturday 29 October 2011

W/C 24th October

This week i have been trying to get all the planning finished in order to get the filming started.

I have mainly been tryingto get as many people as possible to complete my Polls. i have trying to get as many different types of people to do them aswell, so a range of different ages for example. It is important include variety as it will then make hte result more reliable as its a wide scope of opinion.
When the polls are complete i will then go on to put together the target audeince profile.

Also this week i have asked for my actor and actress to complete their screen test and send them to me, who both agreed to have it done by the end of the week.

Lastly, the drawing for the digipak cover draft is in prgress and again should be done by the end of the week.

Friday 28 October 2011

DigiPak Draft

The above image is what i have in mind to be on the fornt of my DigiPak. The image shows half the face sad and upset, with make up smudged and running down her face, while the other side is happy and make up looks beautiful. This is a conceptual cover to portray the two emotions the artist is feeling. She is both upset that her partner has cheated on her and hte relationship is over, but she is happy she found out and had a chance to escape.

Luke's Screen Test

The above video is the first of the two screen tests. This is the male actor i have recuited for the video.

Monday 17 October 2011

W/C 17th October

I have now put all the question up for my poll. I am now waiting for people from my target audience to answer the questions, in order for me to then analyse the answers they give and create a bigger picture of what my target audince are like.
The questions i have added onto my blog are:

- Do you prefer videos with more than one actor?
- Do you prefer music videos which are technically pleasing or conceptual?
- Do you favour video filmed on set or location?
- How do you hear about new music?
- Do visuals and lyrics always have to have a connection?
- Do props and costumes play an imporant part of the overall music video?
- Do you like to see the artist on the album artwork?
- What age group are you?

I believe these questions are key questions, as the answers given will gain me knowledge to what my target audience find most important about the music videos they watch. I will then be able to include these features in my music video and give the audeince what they want.

I have also now completed and uploaded my test sequence.

Wednesday 12 October 2011

Test Sequence

This is a short video showing the different types of shots which could be used in a music video add extra effect, such as Revese slow motion, extreame slow motion, dramatic angles, multiple exposure and extreme close up/revese motion.

Monday 10 October 2011

W/C 10th October

This week I have started to put polls up onto my blog. When my target audience begin to answer the questions I will be able to build up a better picture of what my target audience is like and what their needs & wants are. With this information I will be able to use it to my advantage and create a music video which they will be able to enjoy, and therefore will have much more value.

The questions I have put up are ‘do you favour music videos which are technically pleasing or conceptually pleasing?’, ‘do you prefer videos with more than one actor?’ and ‘What music video channels do you watch the most?’

I decided on these questions because I will be able to find out where they watch the music videos and then research more into this channel by looking at the music video they show and draw ideas from this. I will also be able to see if I need to recruit more actors than I already have. For example, the poll might make me realise I need to include backing dancers. The final question I have put on will find out if the audience would prefer to watch a music video which is technically pleasing, for example with advanced after effects skills, or if they would have a video which is brilliant filmed.

Monday 3 October 2011

W/C 3rd October

This week we have been working on our test sequence.
In small groups we went out with the cameras and filmed short sequences of different shots we could possible use in our music video for different effects. The main shots we focused on were multiple exposure, dramatic angles, extreme close up, slow motion and reverse motion. Multiple exposure shots show the same person engaging in different actives in the same shot. Dramatic angles are when the camera is positioned for example in an extreme low angles or extreme high angle, which creates a sense of unreality. The extreme close up shot will show tension as you are able to see the actor in a closer position. Slow motion is to create a visual aesthetic treat and reverse motion has a similar effect. However reverse motion can also leave the audience thinking about how this is possible.

W/C 26th September

This week we have been thinking about the Digipak we will also be creating. As a class we thought of idea’s about the style we wanted it to look like. The four main ways of doing it are conceptual, promotional, artistic and technical. I have decided to do a mixture of conceptual and artistic. As you can see from the drafts I have designed, the concept is that the artist is feeling a mixture of two emotions, which can be seen through the split screen. Half of her is feeling fine and just wants to move on while the other half is feeling heart broken by what her boyfriend has done. My idea is artistic because of the extreme make up she is wearing, such as the heavy extravagant eye shadow and the bright pink lip stick. The shot I have decided on is an extreme close up so all you can see is the models face. This way the audience will be able to see the tears rolling down her face is greater depth and contrast this to the opposite emotion on the opposite side of her face. The design of the digipak is to signify that although she is putting on a brave face and pretending she doesn’t care, instead she is actually hurt on the inside.

Design Insiprations

Above is a mind map off all the idea's i have at this stage of the process, about the music video itself and also the digipak which will accompany the music video. Includes details such as location, actress/actor and digipak drafts.

Monday 19 September 2011

W/C 19th September

This week I have began to mind map the design inspirations in terms of similar music videos, location idea's, props and costume etc.

My main inspiration in terms of similar music video is Beyonce - irreplaceable. This video has inspired me the most because the storyline in the video is extremely similar to the story line in the song that I have chosen. Also, the video is set at home location and features the boyfriend being kicked out of the house.

I have also been looking back at the resource audit and the location reece I previously created and thinking more deeply into where I am going to film the video. I know I will be filming it at both a studio location and also a outside location, however now I am also certain about where exactly I will be filming. I am going to film at my friend Charlotte Urry’s house for the outside as she has huge gate outside her house which will make the video look more like the house belongs to a famous pop star, compared to a house that is on a busy road for example. However, for the inside shots I am mostly likely going to use my own house as I have a dressing room which will be useful for when I am doing shots in the mirror.

I have not completely decided what costume I will have my actors in, however I am thinking of using the beyonce video as something to copy and go along a similar route. However, in the Beyonce video, she looks glamorous, but for my video I am thinking of having the actress in home comfy clothing. The male actor will look very similar to how the male actor looks in my video inspiration.

I have now decided on the main actor and actress, who are Michael Zara and Shanice Angol.

Proposal

I am going to plan and produce a music video for Rihanna’s song, Take a Bow. The primary audience will be female, with a secondary audience of males because they’re of the attraction they may feel towards the female, in accordance to Goodwin’s theory where woman are viewed in a voyeuristic manner.

The genre of the song is R&B so I am going to make the video fit into this genre, so that Goodwin’s theory of visuals and lyrics are matching stands correct.

The female audience may be able to relate to her from past experiences they may have been through with their partners from the past.

I am going have a young attractive female playing the part of Rihanna, and I am also going to have a young male actor.

My initial idea is to have the actress in a dark room at the beginning of the video to portray the sadness and betrayal; shot using green screen and then edited to be a black background later in after affects. I am also planning to have the actress playing a glossy black piano.
The video will then cut to an outside location at the artist’s home, where she is kicking her ex partner out their home. The male actor in the video will be filmed banging on the door as if in first person from the actress’s point of view, looking from the bedroom window.
For the chorus of the song, as this is repeated throughout the song, I decided to continuously film this at the green screen location with the artist standing and camera positioned to show a medium long shot of the artist singing.
After the chorus and into the second verse, the female finally lets the male into the house and while he is begging for forgiveness, while she shows him to the bedroom to pack his bags. After he has packed his bags and is now leaving, he pauses before leaving the house and begs for forgiveness again.
To end the video the actress will be filmed in her bedroom where she gets out her box of memories and photos from under her bed, which I will shoot as a screen within a screen. Then she reflects on the good times she had and finally lets her emotions out and begins to cry, cutting to and from the studio location.

As a substantial amount of the video is filmed at the artist’s home, the visuals and the lyrics will match, as the song is about the male artist being kicked out. Green screen will be used for the chorus of the song as this is repeated throughout the song.

Upon release, I would hope for my video to go viral at first via social networking, YouTube in particular, and then for the song to get into the charts and be on music video channels, such as 4music and Viva which are free view channels; therefore, everyone who has a TV will have access to these channels. The video will also be released on other Sky channels such as MTV.

W/C 12th September

Since returning back to school, I have wrote my proposal for the music video I have decied on filming, which is Rihanna's Take a Bow. The proposal outline's who the mucis video is for, what is about, where it will be filmed, how I intend on filiming it and any influences I have.
Since returning back to school, I have wrote my proposal for the music video I have decided on filming, which is Rihanna's Take a Bow. I have now decided on the main actor and actress, who are Michael Zara and Shanice Angol.

The target audience I have in mind is mainly a young female. I have chose this audience because I think they will be the people who will be able to relate to the story of the video the most as they may have been though similar experiences themselves.

The song I have chosen is about a couple who have recently broken up because the artist has found out about an affair that her boyfriend has been having. However, she is applauding him for keeping the lie he was living well hidden. Therefore, the music video will be go along with this storyline.

I have not yet completely decided where I will be filming the video; however I do know it will be both an outside location and studio location. The outside location will be a house, as the boyfriend is being kicked out of the house. And the studio location will be in a green screen room.

Permission To Use Material Email

Now i have decided i am going to be using Rihana - Take a Bow, i researched into who the publishers ogf the song are, and got in contact with the to ask their permission to use their material, for copyright purposes.

Hoilday Diary

Over the past 6 weeks I have been thinking long and hard about the video that I want to shoot when returning to school in year 13. i have had many idea's to think about.
To help me make my decision, I continued with the research and planning work, as you can see I have added '10 iconic Stills', 'Location Reece' '2 Final Idea's' and lastly the 'Song Lyric Analysis'
The 10 iconic stills was a help because it enabled me to look back at some of the most memorable music video's we have and thinking what it is about them that we remember. I then thought, would I be able to create a similar effect in my video.
The location Reece allowed me to think about the places I have available to me to shoot my video, or places I would like to shoot my video.
I then narrowed down my thinking to just 2 songs. There are very different from each other, which made my decision harder. So I made a table and took myself through what would happen in the video, and then decided which video if I was to watch it would prefer to watch.
My decision was made and I decided to go with 'Rihanna - Take a Bow', because i thought the idea I had for this video was more realistic. So I analysed the lyrics of the song, and thought about the meaning of the lyrics. This will later help me when casting for my video, because I know the sort of attitude the actress will need to have.

Lyric Analysis

Rihanna - Take a Bow

Final 2 Idea's Comparison

Final 2 Idea's

Location Recce

 Covent Garden
This is a popular tourist attraction, however due to its busy busling atmosphere, this might also make it difficult to film there
 London Area
An iconic scene, which would be ideal for the opening of a music video to set the scene as the audeince wold instantly reconise the location
 London Area
 China Town
Similarly to Covent Garden, china town has a distinct oriental theme and would be a good night location to film when all the lights are on, but again because it is such a famous tourist attraction this could create problems for filming
 China Town
 Leicester Square
 Leicester Square
Also known as theatreland. Again a very busy tourist attraction so this could pose difficulties if trying to film
 London Area
 Leicester Square
 Dressing Room - My House
This would be a good location to film because it is a very bright and has a mirror in so it would be good for doing close ups of an actress doing her make up
 Costa Del Sol, Spain
This would be an ideal location because it is a very popular set for many music video's, especially those released during the summer.
 Costa Del Sol, Spain
 Gran Caneria
Wembly Arena
Wembly would be a good location because the stadium is well known, so people would be able to relate to the video

Audience Feedback Form Proposal)

This is the feedback that i recieved on my inital idea, the proposal. overal, it seems my target audeinec are pleased with what i have planned, but have still given me advice on aspects that could be improved. I am also going to continue to collect feedback at later stages though the process.

Iconic Music Video Stills

Iconic Music Video Stills

Thursday 14 July 2011

W/C 14th July

This week we did a reverse story board. to do this, we picked an already existing music video and we took screen shots from different parts of the video and analysed them. W were mainly looking at the different interesting places where the camera was placed and Mise en-Scene.

Monday 11 July 2011

Equipment Audit

The visual switcher allows for the director to film using four cameras at the same time and while filing can switch between the different cameras. To the left you will see four different screens showing you what the different cameras are filming and to the left is the final footage.

The fill light is used for general lighting. This would be used particularly if you was to film using green screen as you would need the green to be extremely bright, which is what this light does, makes everything that bit brighter and clearer.

The dolly is effectively a trolley on wheels which enables the director or the person shooting the footage to push the mounted camera along the action. Because it is on wheels, the means that the footage is kept stable, however, it can only be effective if used on a smooth surface, such as indoor, outdoor setting might be less effective if wheeling it over grass or the pavement for example.

The Cannon XM2 main benefit is that it is able to shoot very well in low light conditions, therefore making the film much better quality.

The Sony HVRA1E camera is able to film in HD quality. Therefore when you view the footage back it will be in high definition, again increases the quality of the filming.

The spot light can be used when filming the artist in a performance. They are used to create a specific effect, depending on the position it is placed. For example, if it is placed directly behind the artist a silhouette effect, however if it was placed to one side it would give a glowing effect.

Autocue is used if the actor I am filming doesn’t know the lyrics to the song. This can make the overall video better because it means the actors will looks as though they are the real artist and it makes it more believable.

The Cannon 550D camera is good for filming depth of field. This is where it films the main object in the image in perfect quality, however blurs out everything else in the background.

The Crane allows for me to look high/low angle shots as well as also swing the camera swiftly along a performance. This would be effective if filming a live performance or a Spectacular view

Music Video Analysis

The main male artist of the video is wearing a suit and looks very presentable.

The video begins and we the audience are presented with a shot of a woman in a swimming pool and the sun glistening behind her, and then we also see two other women in the reflection of the pool with bikinis on and one woman stokes her leg in a seductive way. This support both Goodwin and also Schwichtenberg’s theory about music videos as they say that music videos are dominated by males and females react or that women are treated voyeuristic.

As the beat begins to build up, the edits are cut quickly to and throw between the females and the male artists. This is known as cutting to the beat. This technique is repeated though the video when the beat begins to build up, so does the editing. Again this can be related to Goodwin’s theory as there is a relationship between music and visuals.

As the male artist is a photographer for the video’s purposes, he is in control of a digital camera and there are a few shot where we see the action through his camera. It makes the audience feel as though they are a part of the filming, as we see what the artist is seeing at the same time.
As the video progresses we also find out that the video is filmed in to separate locations. We have the location by the pool and then also we have another location where we see the artist is a room with pictures hanging on the wall. When the filming as taking place in this room the colour in which the film is shot in is a red colour. With also hints of blue. This gives an interesting affect to the video.

Also in this room we see the male artist with one of the female models. However the audience may be left wondering if it is real or not because when the video cuts to the next scene (the next verse of the song) the model quickly disappears and he is left in the room looking at his pictures.

In the second half of the song it appears as though the female models before vicious and we being to see them gathering and walking in unity. We even see one of the unleash her hand, of which her extremely long nails and appears and she walks ahead of the other two models looking very confidently. Eventually she arrives at the photographers door and she pushes it open and the video cuts to show him in full light, not in red and this video end on this shot as if its to say ‘to be continued’. This is like a cliff-hanger and would make the audience want to watch the next video the artist releases to see if they are connected and maybe find out what happens next.

This song was also apart of the soundtrack for the film ‘Romeo Must Die’ which she also appeared in as an actor. Therefore, as expected there is intertextuality from the music video and the film. There are shots where we see her partner from the film in the music video, and as he is able to perform martial arts we see him do some in humane things. this is a postmodern view, when you cannot distinguished between real and simulated.

The female artist in the video is wearing a bikini top with a matching neck brace and leather bottoms with chains dangling.

The video begins and we are presented with a wall of mirrors, which are used very cleverly throughout the video to created different types of effects, which is what I believe makes this music video as effective as it is. We then see the actors from the film pushed the mirror door and come from behind it, as the music begins. It then cut the female singer in a room full of more mirrors and some dancers behind her. There also appears to be what looks like a moon above her which is reflected on the floor, this could be because there is mirrors below her or the directors may want the audience to think she is dancing on water. Next we are introduced to the male singer, who is stood in front of similar mirrors to what we saw earlier. There are several mirrors, therefore reflecting several images. As like in a film, we have now been introduced to all the ‘actors’, just before the music reaches it crescendo. The female singer then performs a dance routine as the camera both zooms in and out before using the mirrors to their advantage again and we see the artist in the mirror, which is turning which again, looks effective. This also allows for the location of the scene to change without the audience so much as noticing. In the new location the room is more plain, which just her in (no dancers) and when the music says ‘if I say no would you turn away’ she also turns away and looks to the left, therefore as Goodwin says there is a relationship between the music and the visuals. Then again the same technique used to change the location is used again, the mirrors come across the screen and we are put back in the original location with the dancers.

The actor who starts along side the female artist of the song has now again reappeared, and we are in a new location. We see him doing some martial art moves; however a very simple move looks a lot more effective as he does it in front of several mirrors, therefore looks like there is more than one of him. The female singer then performs something similar. Instead of martial art moves, she begins to dance in front of the mirrors, in a separate location to the actor and therefore looks as though mimicking him. This cutting between the two actors continues as though it’s a dance off.

Then in another new location, we see the female artist emerge from a doorway a walk about onto a narrow ‘bridge’ which is made up from three metal beam, which she narrowly walks across. She is then spotted by the male actor is standing below, as though waiting for her. He then spots her, looks up and smiles. The camera then zooms in, in a staggered fashion and we see him again do something strange and jump up on the ‘bridge’ using his martial arts skills. The considering how narrow the metal beams are, they then spin around in an embrace. The camera then cuts to the mirrors again and we get a shot of all the actors again; the female single, male singer and the actor, before we are back with the dancers alongside close up of the artist. One of the dance moves which is particularly effective is when she nods her head to the beat of the music.

The camera then cuts and we see the actor hold the female artist hands while she walks along a mirrored wall and then picks her off the wall and spins her round, this again looks surreal.

At the very end we see a clip from the film. Its also the end bit of the film, where they are fighting in a ring of fire. This is played in slow motion.

The video begins and we see the artist name emerge on the screen. As the music begins we get flashes of a silhouette in front of an ever changing coloured screen.

This then cuts to an extreme close up of a woman lips which are mouthing the word to the song ‘I wear my sunglasses at night’. Another cut is used and we go back to the artist who is in front of to being with a blue back ground, but then changes to red. When they lyrics say ‘blue’ there is a blue screen, then when they lyrics say ‘red’ there is a red screen. This can be related to Goodwin theory when he says that there is a relation between visuals and lyrics.

An extreme close of a woman face then appears and the audience attention to drawn to her eyes because if the extremely long eyelashes she has. Then as the lyrics say ‘eyes on you’ she raises her eyes and special effects are used to highlight her eyes further.

Another cut, to a female silhouette however this time and we see her dancing to the music and special effects are used to outline her body. This may be viewed negatively as some theorist, particularly feminists would say that woman’s body is there to be looked at and appreciated by men. Similarly, there is a shot a woman’s leg, which we see her stroke upwards in a seductive manor, feminists would say this has been included for male’s pleasure.

Similar techniques are repeated throughout the video, until the end.

W/C 07th July

This week we looked at similar already exiting products and anaylsed them. This is included the Digipak, Magazine advert and music video's analysis.

Also this week we looked at all the different types of equipment that is avaiable for us to use. We thought about why it would be good to use them.

W/C 30th June

Due to strike action, it meant that we lost a lesson this week, however we recovered this lesson on the following day, where we began to look at similar already existing products on the market. We began to anayse Digipack front covers, which is the front cover of the artist album, their released music video and lastly an anaysis of a magazine advert.

W/C 23rd June 2011

At the beginning on this lesson we looked at already existing music videos and disscussed what ws good about them and made a personal decision if we would like to use the same technique as what was used in the video. This was to try create some idea of how we would like our videos. The techniques that i decided would be could and would consider to use in my video were:

- Narrative Plot
- Butterfly Effect
- Multiple Personalities
- Screen within Screens
- Dance Routines
- Role Reversal
- Green Screen

I thought these techniques were good becuase they were affective. The videos that have used these techniques are memerable, and i blieve if you can automatically associate a song with its video, then the video has done its job well. This is what i would like to achieve with my video.

In the second part of the lesson we continued with our research.

W/C 16th June 2011

This week we began the work for the course.

Firstly we put together a resource audit, which is all the resources that we have easy acess to, which might help to complete the music video. Its split into cast, crew, props and costume and lastly location. Who i know would be able to perform in front of a camera comfortably, who i know who is good with using camera's or the programmes needed to edit the film ect., what props or costumes i have access to and where where is close to me that i would be able to film the video.

Also this week we began to do our research into music videos. Topics to research into were:
- The purpose of Music Videos
- Development of Music Video's
- New Technologies/Directions
- Conventions of Music Videos
- Generic elements to Music Video's
- Technical features of Music Video's
- Theoretical approches to music video's
- Comtempoary issues surrounding Music Video's
